Re: Immunity Boosting Suggestions Please
A healthy/strong immune system starts with what we put in our mouths (I believe that 3/4 of what we consume should be plant...preferably non GM) Proper levels of Vit D are vital to a healthy immune system. I used to think that my levels were good because I spend so much time outdoors (gardening, wil...

Re: St. John's Wort Oil Extraction
I use the upper tops when making oil and tincture...flowers a bit of stem and a few leaves. Using a jewelers loop aka botany loop one can see little dark spots on the leaves, I assume that is where some of the goody comes from  Have you tried heating the last batch to see if the color changes (...

Re: Who is your plant ally?
I've been thinking about doing a "Plant Ally a month" thing. The thought came to me a couple weeks ago while my husband and I were hiking a nearby mountain. A mountain that was covered with herbs, berries, and a stand of 'juniper' that hugged the mountainside (Juniper was about 6 inches at...

I've also used it as a tincture.
I think that if I were to use it as a tea I would perhaps add a bit of Dill or Fennel...using the entire combo as a digestive.

Re: Who is your plant ally?
Spearmint was my first, my 'Gateway' to the herb world. I was 12 and for some weird reason I knew Spearmint before I even touched her, tasted her, or smelled her (or slept with her under my pillow). I would take her with us every time the parents moved us (sometimes 3 times in a school year). ...

Re: Drying herbs
I like to store my dry herbs in glass jars...in a dark cupboard.
I also like to store herbs in the freezer...in glass jars.
If I'm going to be using a plant often and plan on it being used up in a short time then a paper bag works as a storage container.

Re: Beginner questions
I tincture in what ever glass jar I come across even Starbucks glass coffee bottles. When I make tinctures using DRY material I'll fill the jar 1/2 to 2/3rds full then I add alcohol or glycerin to cover...usually I'll add more liquid a couple days later if the fairies have been taking their share of...
