Re: herbs for panic attacks

There's a few men scattered on here. ;) As for actual Panic Attacks, I don't have any immediate suggestions beyond Motherwort tincture being an excellent "acute AHHH!" medicine. I make it each summer and it's perfect for those times of OMG STRESS, by just taking the edge off. Not in a seda...

Re: Wise Women's thoughts on using Oregano Oil

Welcome back! I have no first-hand experience either, but do know a lovely woman who swears by her technique of putting a drop of various Essential Iols on salad when she feels sick or as a tonic, or such. Sorry for lack of details, but I know she uses Oregano EO. (make salad, put few EO drops on it...

Re: looking for echinacea angustifolia root

Best of luck. While I've seen this stuff growing in other gardens aronud here, I have yet to make a single plant on Echinacea survive here for more than a season. It flowers feebly, then dies off, never to return. But it grows well in the local CSA garden like a weed, and in talking to them we aren'...

Re: WHAT TO USE FOR CLEANING

I usually take my peelings from an orange (or the omni-present little "cutie" tangerine things this time of year) and effectively "Tincture it" in vinegar. This makes a lovely citrus oil vinegar that smells lovely, and works as a fairly effective de-greaser too! And since I'm jus...

Re: Drying Burdock Root

Same here, I just usually cut it into slices (like you see Carrots in stew) and dry them this way, to plop into soups and stews. I imagine shredding/peeling them into "flakes" or strips would be REALLY fast to dry and just as convenient. Not sure about roasting or such myself. Good luck an...

Re: Low acid diet and vinegar infusions

Hmm, I'll leave actual Advice to others, but I have a vague idea that in smaller doses, a splash of nourishing herbal vinegars actually help with getting the minerals out of dark leafy greens. At least that was my understanding, so would hesitantly suggest small splashes to be Helpful to osteo-issue...

Re: Red Sauerkraut

I have the grand total of "two batches" experience with making my own sourkrout, but will also note that the second one I made was half green / half red cabbage. That one also got noticably less juicy, so I added a couple cups of water to the 5-gallon bucket I fermented it in. Not sure how...

Re: Where to find help for herb question?

I have no experience with that particular herb, but for me, I tend to use a fairly "generic Tincture" recipe. - Get bottle of 100-proof vodka. (or other alcohol). Note that most alkaloids are soluble in alcohol and some things are more water soluble. I use 50% to extract both types of 'stu...

Re: Please Introduce yourselves

Welcome everyone, I think I forgot to introduce myself too. I'm Nate a hopefully "wise" non-woman from upstate NY. I've been to one of Susun's workshops and discovered that my own casual herbal practice had a name, "Wise woman tradition". I enjoy the usual outdoor stuff, camping,...

Re: Mixing tinctures...

I know some folks recommend "simples" to learn the effects of tinctures and infusions on your own personal self, (one at a time), with something like this, I'm assuming you alerady know both are GoodThings, so feel free.
