Re: Low acid diet and vinegar infusions

I'm no expert, but I've always understood that nettles, dandelion greens, and other good mineral-rich green herbs infused in vinegar are wonderful for bone health. And now that I'm no longer taking medication for osteopenia, I have been planning to add a lot more such preparations to my diet!

Re: So-Called Abnormal Bleeding

You do what you feel comfortable with. Normal for one person isn't normal for another, and we each have our own unique history. But I can't help but wonder why the doctor isn't suggesting pelvic ultrasound? That's pretty non-invasive, much less invasive than a biopsy. Or have you already had one of ...

Re: palpitations

Have you tried hawthorn? That's the grandmama of heart herbs. It's one that you're not supposed to be on if you are prescribed beta blockers, because they increase the effect - and beta blockers are often prescribed for palpitations as well as for blood pressure.

Re: Drying Burdock Root

Maybe you need to venture out a little further into the bush there, ItalianBee. Or you can try growing your own! The trouble is that where I live there's nowhere that's not public and I just don't have quite that much chutzpah - . But I am thinking that I will ask my niece to gather seeds fo...

Re: Drying Burdock Root

I'm actually feeling really sad that my landlord and the next-door one got rid of all the burdock in my vicinity, so I have no source this year - and where I live I can't find "gobo" in the grocery store either. :( I miss my burdock!

Re: Barberry?

Thanks! I also sent an e-mail to a couple of herbalist friends and got a bunch of links. And my herbal from the American colonial days makes a connection with red currant. Interesting plants.

Barberry?

I was given a lovely Middle Eastern cookbook recently, which I am still exploring. I have done a fair amount of cooking from that region, but this is the first time I've seen mention of the use of barberry. Now I'm beginning to wonder about medicinal uses. It doesn't seem to be generally known; I've...

Re: Drying Burdock Root

I have never done anything to burdock roots before using them - I just hang them up to dry. But I'm fairly new to their use, so maybe somebody else knows more.

Re: Yule!

I'm Jewish; Chanukah is our festival of lights, and I believe it is pretty clear that it is connected with the time of year, the winter solstice, even though the story that goes with it is different. So, I light my candles for the eight nights of the festival, and spend some time when the candles ar...

Re: Please Introduce yourselves

I have heard of that, thanks - but it still has to be in another life... age and circumstances. I've taken a couple of long-term courses in the field and I continue to educate myself on my own.
