Re: My Miniature Herb Garden

I make tinctures from lemon balm and motherwort leaves, but I've never grown feverfew. Most plants have plenty of medicinal value in the leaves. I do tend to look up each one before I choose what part to use. But I wouldn't worry about it. My Holy Basil, that I grew from seeds in a container, only g...

Re: whats in your herbal fist aid kit?

Hi, em8! Here's my list, but I would really suggest that you do a lot of research on anything you want to add to your medicine chest and try it out in a lot of different ways. For example, I'm mentioning tinctures and syrups but you might want to use the herb in other mediums. This is a toughie anyw...

Re: WHAT TO USE FOR CLEANING

I confess to using a lot of commercial products... I do use baking soda and white vinegar too. Once I tried a recipe for dishwasher detergent using borax and a few other things, but it did not work very well - it left a film on everything.

Re: Burdock seed tincture

The only time I ever did that, the seeds were dry (someone else had collected them and gave them to me), so I shook them out of the pods. If you have them fresh, I think I might try it both ways and compare.

Re: What herbal projects are you working on this Fall?

I've mostly heard of hawthorn berries being used to benefit the heart - high blood pressure and rhythm problems in particular.

Re: Drying herbs

I prefer to hang them in my kitchen, for several reasons - first, there they are in front of me, I am not likely to forget about them, and I can check them regularly. Second, it's aesthetically pleasing and makes me feel like the old herb woman I am. Third, it just works! But I also do use the paper...

Re: What herbal projects are you working on this Fall?

Lady Alinor, what great ideas! Do you actually eat the hawthorn berries? I have not actually used them because I am on medication for heart arrhythmia and I am cautious about combining the two. But I never thought of eating the berries fresh. And about cats and valerian - funny story - one time year...

Does Andrographis have another name? I've never heard of it.

Re: Please Introduce yourselves

Hi! I see that I came in after this ship was rebuilt - anyway, glad to be here. I'm ItalianBee, after the best honeybees. I've loved herbs all my life (I'm another in my 60's) and gradually got more organised in my play with them, read a lot, took a couple of courses including an online one that I j...
