Re: Poison ivy/oak/sumac
I assume you've already gotten through this, but for next time.... Plantain. If needing right away, chew and make a poultice. Otherwise you can use it later as a poultice to help heal the rash that's developed. The other thing you can do is use green clay. Again, you can use it as a poultice. Place ...

Re: So I ate some sort of reed...
No problem! Last year, I was learning a lot about edible plants, while I was learning about infusions; it's amazing how many plants we wee everyday are edible! Anyway, this was one I learnt about and was eager to try the shoots. It was worth waiting for all year long! I'm going to try the rhizomes t...

I believe they are called "common reed", nothing fancy. This is what they look like, they're everywhere: http://www.fs.fed.us/database/feis/plants/graminoid/phraus/habitat.jpg http://www.eattheweeds.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/weed_comreed_plt_gm.jpg https://berlinplants.files.wordpress...

So I ate some sort of reed...
I ate this reed by the river. Shoot are now just shooting up, and I read we can eat the shoots like asperagus, or eat the roots, or eat the white of the more mature plant. I was pleasantly surprised when I ate the shoot raw to find it tastes a lot like wheatgrass juice! And all those lovely vitamins...

Re: Preventing/Easing Immune Reaction to Dog Dander - Method
If I have an allergy attack (cats and dogs), nettle tea helps calm it down, but does not get rid of it completely. However, while caring for a cat this past winter, I had been drinking infusions regularly, and nettle infusion was the main one. I realised one day, I wasn't having any allergic reactio...

Re: Nourishing Herbal Infusions
I just pour it into a strainer over a mixing bowl, squish the herbs of their juices while the strainer is still over the bowl, then take the bowl and pour the infusion back into the jar. Works for me!

Re: Short or Long Ride with Perimenopause?
Wow! Who would'a thunk, eh? So you were 44 when you got pregnant? Our bodies are amazing! Sorry for the loss of the first one, Movlin. I can only imagine how much you cherish that little 11 month old. I wonder if you'll just start off where you left off or start all over right from the beginning aga...

Re: Short or Long Ride with Perimenopause?
This is what I was looking for... some sort of road map to understand the stages of perimenopause. I know the timeline is different for everyone, but at least the physical experience can tell us where we are in the process: http://www.cemcor.ubc.ca/sites/default/files/uploads/phases_of_perimenopause...

Re: So Cold!
UPDATE!: So, it turned out to be the hormones again. Many of the things I listed above, such as the dizziness, mood swings and heart palpitations, all went away very quickly when I started to eat the homemade miso I made last year (it takes a year to complete its fermentation process), and I hadn't ...
