Preterm Labor

Postby AnimalCommunicator » Mon Jul 12, 2010 2:58 pm

Hi,
I was in the hospital last week for preterm labor (contractions, +FFN test, cervix effaced to 1.7 cm) and am now home on bed rest. I'm on Indocin, which is keeping the contractions at bay, and have increased my calcium and magnesium supplements. Just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions to prevent labor, since I'm only 29 wks, and I can only be on the Indocin until 32 wks.
Thanks,
Jenny

hi jenny,

i feel for you! i had preterm labor with my first three and was put on meds and bed rest for the last 2-3 months with each. they all made full term 40 weeks and were born big beautiful and healthy. being 1.7 dialated at 29 weeks isn't unusual - heck the first 3 cm don't even count! you can get there with braxton hicks contractions over a period of weeks - or you can dialate to 3 and hold for weeks before delivering. did they tell you how far your cerix was effaced? how strong and how often were the contractions?

it's a tricky thing when giving advice or sharing experiences with a pregnant woman because no one wants to be responsible for saying something which could possibly have an adverse effect on the woman or her baby if it influenced your decision making. i've actually erased several lines of text because of this!
