Dear Susun,
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just began reading your book "Healing Wise" and it's spoken to me like no other. It's opened my eyes and I now see so much clearer. When you explain about the Heroic way you're describing me...always trying to seek the "perfect" diet/herb...always wondering what I did to make myself sick...always thinking "if only" I'd feel better...do better...be better.

When you speak of the Wise Woman you speak to my heart...what I've somehow always known deep down. Since a child I've always been so in tune with our Mother. I've always loved the earth and being bare foot in my garden. I've always talked with my flowers, my vegetables and herbs, thanking them for providing for me. I've always loved working with the land and found a special satisfaction in reaping her bounty. I've always felt a kinship with the native people and their ways but didn't think I was "good enough" or "pure blooded" enough to be a part of them...you've helped me see that I am. For that I am eternally grateful.

with metta,
Pennie Boots

Peace, Justine [;)] have fun, live life, love fully!

This is the first of Susun's books I owned. It is incredible!

It is not like a book one reads, learns from, and puts aside. I read and reread and reread! In fact I was surfing her websites recently and came across some articles that were wonderful. I was so thankful for the new writings .... then I reached the bottom -- "reprinted from 'Healing Wise'". Silly me had read years ago the beginning and considered it done.

Just like taking Susun's classes, each revisit I learn deeper levels!

As an introduction to the depths of Susun's teachings, I highly recommend this book!!!

[^]Susun's Healing Wise is always close at hand in my home. My first one spent lots of time in the bathroom with me (so that I could read it in peace and absorb every word). My second one (with Susuns autograph) is on my bookshelf but spends at least 3 nights a week in my hands while I am sitting in my reading chair. I love this book. It has lead me to so many wonderful things and given me knowledge that I did not have before. Its almost 8 years since my friend and I collected our dandelion roots and burdock roots at my sisters house and made our first tinctures! Healing Wise was with us both that day. Susun, this book opened a whole new world for me. What a blessing.

I have just received Susuns books in the mail today. They are all great. Healing wise is just wonderful, it speaks to me in a way I never dreamt possible. I am having a very hard time putting it down and doing other things, especially my study. Oh well study can wait for bit, while I read this incredible book. [:)]
Thanks so much Susun.

I read "Healing Wise" last winter, and it has changed my life. For the first time, I felt really empowered to go out and work with the things growing in my own backyard; something I'd been wanting to do for years and years. At first I made salads with a patch of chickweed. Mmmm. Now I'm picking the red clover for fresh and dry infusions and a tincture and learning the wonders of oatstraw.

I am also dancing with some plants that aren't in the book, such as plantain, and doing it more securely thanks to the approach taught by Susun.

I am a Wiccan priestess and minister (with my husband) of a Wiccan church. A lot of people ask me for book references. The only herbal I'm recommending these days is "Healing Wise," because I feel the Wise Woman approach (as opposed to mechanical Scientific or punitive Heroic) is most compatible with our religion and most vital for people to learn to take joy in their bodies, in the Earth, and in our relationships with plants.

I bought Healing Wise back around 1993. My daughter was a pre-schooler. I enjoyed it so much. I was taking an herb course at the time, but I learned so much from her book. I wanted to share the book with a friend, so I gave it to her. Now, I miss having the book and plan to order another one for me. I can't wait to read her other books. There is lots of herby knowledge to learn in her writings. I recommend the book to many people.
Thanks Susun! Keep those books coming, we need them!

Hello Ladies! I recently bought Healing Wise as a treat for myself, even though I wasn't sure if I'd be able to afford it. I'm so glad I did. I've had trouble really getting the gist of what Susun's trying to say based off of her web articles and SageWoman articles. But by reading Healing Wise, I think I'm getting the drift, and I have found what I've been looking for for a long time now...a philosophy of life and healing that is not life-denying or steeped in blame. It's so refreshing to read a book that tells me I'm already whole, and that it's okay, even healthy, to sometimes feel pain, to sometimes be sick or tired or down and out. I don't have to purge myself or punish myself. Life is messy and painful and fun. Weeds are beautiful friends. Simple is better than complicated. Everyone and everything is unique. Life is a joy, a blessing, to be embraced. I felt my heart opening just reading this book! I feel so much affection for Susun now, I would love to meet her. I'm not sure how she--or the rest of you-- feel about some aspects of traditional Witchcraft and popular alternative spirituality that seem to run counter to these ideas, but I'm interested in finding out. Maybe I'll find out in her other books, or if I ever get a chance to do the Green Witch correpsondence course. This is a great book!

I am a lover of the exotic. I love philosophies, food, music, languages and belief systems that are from FAR away...the more rare, foreign and far-out the better. Well, that's cool...[:I]

...But there is nothing QUITE so empowering as making things from materials that are cheap, free and close to home, is there? Healing Wise re-introduced me to a wisdom that I'm sure was a day-to-day part of our grandmother's and great-grandmother's lives. What a wonderful feeling to know that Dandelion and Clover don't actually grow from BOTTLES on SUPERMARKET shelves...LOL...these things are free for the asking in our backyards(!!). I'm no stranger to herbalism, but the idea of wildcrafting my own medicine was SO incredibly radical and exciting for me. Sounds funny to say--but there's just not much of an herbal tradition in this country (USA). What traditional wisdom there is seemed to be forgotten or the luxury of a select group of people who live alternative/traditional lives.[:)]

It was great to realize that what are generally considered to be banal, troublesome and obnoxious weeds are actually powerful allies that are here to share their healing gifts with us. How amazing the first time I made nettle tincture...rose petal oil...dandelion pancakes...The joy and novelty of self-sufficiency were so intoxicating for me.[:X][:X]

I go back to Healing Wise again and again for its wisdom, recipes, techniques, intelligence and practical magic. It's also just a really great read--I actually laughed out loud in parts. You can sense Susun Weed's passion and sincerity on every page of the book. Terrific primer for newbies and great to have dog-eared and worn on the shelf. What a wonderful experience...Thank you, thank you, thank you---

It is cool Liz. I'm thinking that the book that I've been looking for seemingly forever is right here, Healing Wise sounds wonderful! "Terrific Primer" for a newby like myself!

Oh my have I much to learn. I feel like a lost soul here, frantically wondering what this herb is, and what is she talking about, and where do I find that in my backyard and now I finally truly know what a tincture is! Whoosh
