Hey, ladies, just wanted to say that I've enjoyed reading through this thread. I really knew nothing about runes up until now, but you all have me a bit intrigued by them. I always like learning something new, and I hope the discussion continues!

I made my runes out of small rocks and stones that my oldest son gathered when he was younger and would go on vacations with my parents. When he was 13 (he is now 26) he gave them all to me.
So my rune set is made with river pebbles ,small flat rocks, pieces of clear and rose quartz, yellow and green rocks, almost any color imaginable from many states.
I put the markings on them with a paint pen and covered that with clear nail polish,...after 13 years they still look great, and I'm still using them.

Is anybody here currently working with Runes? I'm thinking of making my first set since it's been in the back of my mind for years.

i have a set of runes made out of Amethyst that a Reiki master gave me several years ago. it came with an instruction book that explains right side up and upside down interpretations. the book also comes with layouts. i'm not good at interpreting runes, or anything for that matter, but they are beautiful.

i also have a beautiful book that goes in depth to their meaning, beautifully illistrated and another such books on the tarot.

I wouldn't have expected it, but I'm finding runes to be easier to interact with than the Tarot. I love rich symbolism, archetypes, etc. and I'm an artist so I've always been attracted to the beautiful imagery of the Tarot. Runes just seemed more abstract and vague to me, but now that I'm getting more serious about them I find that they're easier for me to "communicate" with. You can look almost anywhere in nature - trees, rocks, plants, even man-made objects - and see runes in it. I'm very very much an amateur with both systems but I see Tarot as something that is very connected to the human mystical experience and Runes as something that comes from natural patterns, human or not. What's interesting is that so far I've been meditating on one specific rune and twice now I've seen Tarot-like images to help explain it. Maybe someday I could make a set of "Rune Tarot" cards?

As for my own set, I'm still waiting for a branch to make them. I don't want to actually cut a branch from a tree but I want my runes to be wood so I'm waiting for a branch to present itself.
