For the past year I have been dabbling in different ways of preparing medicinals, for instance using the freezer in my tincture making (freezer space is getting low and the harvests are coming in, I better step up my experiments...lol)
I came across this video while doing research for a course that I'm enrolled in. Tradition Chinese medicine has been around for at least 5000 years, so their medicinal preparation approach has been well used and perfected.

I have tinctures 'brewing' using the method described in this offering about making Dit Da Jow http://www.ironpalm.com/arc7.html

Right now I have an experiment going using the method, I am trying it with Black Cohosh, Peach twig, and I'm in the process of working up some Usnea.
My thinking is that this method will excel with roots, barks,and other hard bits.

Here is a different way of making Glycerites, according to the presenter this is more suited to plants high in volatile oils.

Holly Hutton of Herbal Goddess Medicinals has written a wonderful article on using 'ancient' preparation techniques for Western herbs...in other words a Traditional Chinese approach to preparing herbs for consumption, for instance honey frying/stir frying herbs to alter their active or to kick start an in-active component.
