Sarsaparilla

The only species of sarsaparilla that I can find here is Smilax utilis. Interchangeable with ornata\officinalis, anyone know? Also, in tincture or extract form, does any chromium get extracted?

I'm not too familiar with Sarsaparilla, except in pre-made sodas from my younger days, sorry. I would imagine there's "more than zero" value in interchanging the two types, but that's just my gut-reaction rather than any scholarly knowledge.
