I have been interested in Reiki for some time, and just this year have had found a wonderful teacher, and will be attuned to Reiki 1 at the end of next week :)
I was wondering if anyone wanted to share the changes they felt after being attuned. ?
I was also surprised to read the comments from CW about the danger of bladder and urinary tract infections, kidney & gall stones, and kidney infections for the practioner... can anyone elaborate?
I discovered Reiki is what i have been doing for years really, and it is great to learn about it in a more formal way, and learn some great techniques and symbols.

I wasn't sure that the first attunement worked. Some people in my class had these profound experiences but I didn't. About three days later I started feeling the energy flowing through me and out after that the changes I felt after each attunement that I received or gave are a profound spiritual opening within my body. Each attunement opens me more. At first I felt that this is what a "baptism in the Spirit" really is. I began growing spiritually in love and compassion for self and other. I started Reiki in the dark night of the soul. In this place I had a lot of personal demons to heal. There was no fight, there was healing and transformation. I felt a profound connection to self, other and spirit.
My extra-sensory gifts began emerging and eventually I had the whole set. My kundalini began rising. My chakras opened to my awareness. I could feel energetic waves, see things happen the moment before they actually did. See colors of energy. I began seeing other dimesions of reality. I felt that I always had a foot in each world. The world of spirit and the physical world. Everyone has their own process and experience.

So far I have not had any illnesses that I would directly relate to practicing Reiki nor have I seen any within the larger Reiki community.
I am far more likely to become ill when I am not giving regular Reiki session.

Within the healing process, some people do have healing crisis and a previously hidden dis'ease' may come to the surface. Usually a healing crisis runs it's course very quickly when allowed to.

I find the beliefs that people have about energy healing to be interesting. One is that we should be doing obvious and miraculous healings every time we touch someone. Another is that a spiritual healer should never be sick. If we do get sick then our healing modality is the reason for the illness. That's like saying that an MD should never be sick and that if they become ill it is because of the kind of medicine they practice.

I recently did a session with a woman who had prolapsed bladder surgery. She was in alot of pain and when she went up and down a flight of stairs she was totally exhausted for the rest of the day. In two days she was to hold an event at her home with 35 women. My intention was that she have enough energy and be painfree enough to hold her event. Also to heal anything past, present or future connected with the problem around surgery. The session was unbelievable and when I left she said she felt like a new person. Yet three days later, after she had prepared for and held her event, she was thinking the session did not work because she was still in pain. Go figure.

Limitations and beliefs can be planted in the mind/body system and when that happens it becomes true for the individual. Pass the 'teaching' around enough and it becomes 'true' within the community. I just don't buy into the idea that Reiki causes disease. I've heard of people saying to never give reiki to someone under anesthesia, with an unset broken bone, with a tooth infection, and other equally ambiguous reasons.

When I do get sick, Reiki always provides the energy necessary to get to the root of the issue. If I wanted to blame reiki for the illness I could but why would I?

I used to teach Usui Reiki and other Reikis before I fell ill, so I'll have a go for you. ^^

I have never heard of the danger of such infections but there is a way of drawing in Reiki energy called the Kidney Breath where one actually breathes in colored energy and imagines the kidneys turning a certain color- usually blue, if memory serves. At least as I was taught, the kidneys, urinary tract, and liver are associated with detoxification, if the energy causes a rapid detox, that might account for UTI-like symptoms. I can't vouch for the validity of those things happening myself, however. I was a more intuitive (read non-traditional ;) ) practitioner, so I never used the Blue Kidney Breath myself.

When I was attuned, it was like being infused with rainbows. It was brilliant and blissful. It was easier for me to contact my spiritual guides after attunement but I felt more in touch with the universe after I was attuned. I actually saw my guides with my normal vision for a while after my first Master attunement. I felt lighter physically as well. I did feel more tired and I did have some depressive symptoms, especially after my level 2 but that was just my system adjusting to the new level of energy. It lasted only 21 days.

I am a Reiki Master also trained in the Usui tradition. I noticed during my attunements I would feel the prescence of others - kind of like if you closed your eyes and someone waved a hand in front of you, you get the feeling someone is there - in this case I got that feeling during my last attunemnet but there was no on physically there. Maybe they were my spirit guides.

For many reasons all caused by my own fears and insecurities I have not kept up on my Reiki self treatments. I am slowly getting back into it. I think sometimes I have more FEAR that something is going to work, then not - does that make sense? Like If I continue with this I will HAVE to commit to it.
Sounds kooky, huh?

Anyway I do remember my teacher saying you should keep up on your self treatments and keep your body and mind healthy so you would not receive any ill effects when treating others and also so you can be a better channel for the energy.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences and questions. I just attended the first third of my Reiki I training, with the first of 4 level I attunements, tonight. Three hours, and of course it's difficult to sleep! But I must, b/c part 2 of this Level I series starts at 10 a.m. tomorrow. Then again on Sunday.

Every couple of years, something crosses my path quite by chance that I feel a very strong drive to pursue. I was searching online for a massage space for rent, when I found out about a 5th generation Reiki master who was conducting very traditional Usui classes/attunement this weekend for the very traditional $150 fee (for 9 hours). I checked with my Reiki master (but non teaching) friend, who validated my good impressions of this person. So off I went, on another chase down another path, like Alice in Wonderland... where this will lead, I don't know, but I do believe that it is the start of something significant. And I am rarely wrong with these feelings. Heck. I'm never wrong about these hunches. My antennae are quivering like crazy, metaphorically/metaphysically speaking.

So I am excited and more heartened by all you have to contribute. Looking forward to a life-changing weekend.

Oh, lotus, do you really want to know? I was with one of the few remaining 4th generation masters, not 5th as I originally thought. So was even closer to Usui than I orignally thought. This was one of Tanaka's masters. So, I gave it my best shot.

I'd already been exposed to medical qigong, which is quite amazing and profound. I have a lot of respect for that practice.

Shortly after, my qigong master contacted me out of the blue. I reminded him of his offer to train me, and asked if he was still open to that. We had begun several years ago, but at that time I was too unfocused and physically too deficient to pursue the discipline that qi cultivation requires. In the last months, however, I've been practicing the microcosmic orbit meditation faithfully and am picking up the Taoist purging and tonifying exercises again... so I am ready to pursue that, I think, rather than the reiki.

Thanks, lotus... that is what I thought, too. The whole set of happenstances was just too tightly interwoven. I've got my work cut out for me now. I've learned the hard way that if you don't get with the program when doors open, you get booted through a wall later....!

Did you receive your attunement? What was your experience like?

Like LWD, at first I didn't know if I'd been attuned, though I did come away with a heightened sense of perception. Later that began to blossom as all of my higher senses opened more than before the attunement. But it was the Reiki II attunement that was most amazing. My husband and I took it at the same time, and our lives began to change immediately. All the deadwood in our lives, all the stagnant energies and situations that were not serving out commitment to spiritual growth were cleared out over the next two years, sometimes in ways that seemed very abrupt and hard.

After we got over the shock of all the changes in our lives (and quit fighting them), we entered fully into the energy, and miracle after miracle occured until we were ready to take our third attunement, and they are still happening. One of those miracles was this forum, which has been life changing for me.

For me Reiki has been a process of continued at-one-ment with Diety, and I see Reiki as a concrete expression of divine love.

As I said, when I was attuned for the first time, I wasn't sure anything had happened. I guess I was expecting all kinds of bells and drums. Then for while I got worried if nothing seemed to happen when I shared Reiki. A wise Reiki teacher helped me get un-fixated on outcomes and centered in the process instead, and everything changed. It was like the difference between watching a stream from the banks, and stepping into it. And the wisdom from that learning has applied all through my life.

I too have seen miracles, and always expect them with a sort of detachment, but I wonder if the greatest miracle of Reiki is the light that it pours into the spirits of both practitioner and receiver long after a Reiki session is over. We have to be changed in positive ways by this!

The planet needs this, and in a world where most people really practiced the Pillars of Reiki, how could there be war?

I totally agree that Reiki is so much more than a way to heal.

It can be the 'fast track' for spiritual growth for those who use it as a spiritual practice.

Empty mind, the void, the middle road, the valley of love, compassionate action, access to other realms of being, experiencing being One with everything, entering the stream of source energy, aware continued expansion.

Did you receive your attunement? What was your experience like?

Thankyou for asking. Yes i did. And yes, very blissful. I had an aunt and a grandma and a sister make their presence felt during it, and i couldnt get sweet violet off my mind. I also couldnt stop grinning! I also felt my partner and children come up to me. I looked at their faces and then gathered them behind me and then strapped us all together and took off like a rocket!! Maybe this means we all have lots of 'travelling' to do together, or together we can reach the stars?

The ongoing effects have been subtle. Some people in my group felt big changes in their skulls causing headaches, but i think my path had already taken me thru a certain amount of enlightenment and apart from a brief time of vertigo during the #2 attunement i havent felt any ill effects.

I havent been treating other people as much as id planned, other parts of my life having got very busy, and i havent been doing the formal sequence on myself either, but i use it alot on situations, and definitely feel like it has inhanced my inner peace and calm. I have always been pretty psychic, but i think this may have been enhanced a little too.

I really enjoy using reiki on situations. Before i have to make an official phone call, or when i have to meet someone and am apprehensive of the outcome, i invite in and feel the reiki and send it to the situation.
Or when im confronted with a seemingly hopeless situation, i will send it reiki, not even being able to think of solution, just sending the energy as what i can positively contribute. I feel this really turns the energy from a fear based one to a love/hope based one.

Yes, imagine a world of people consciously raising bliss levels, with that focus there wouldnt be war.

I am drawn to qigong too .. very interesting ... i hope to learn more from that perspective too.

We are prisms - with the power to affect the energy that touches and flows through us. I am so happy to be getting more and more conscious of the nuances of this.

havent been here for a while it is so nice to read all this
Reiki certainly changed my life forgood, it was an opening to a new way of life for me, and things started happening, I started growing and was able to leave some old issues behind me in my past reik years

I still practise reiki. I practise usui reiki (by diane stein) and shamballa mdh which is a very powerfull energy
I combine it all with crystalhealing, I rediscovered my senses.. my intuition especially.

I read something bout infections in the reikimaster somewhere in this topic, And that is , to be honest , the very first time i EVER heard about that, no one I know had any of these problems, I did have gall bladder problems but not in relation to my iniiations in fact the reiki helpd me with a very very quick recovery , the doctors were amazed to see me walk out of the hospital three days after surgery.
