Chinese Medicine - The Five Elements

Postby myponyispretty » Fri Jul 28, 2006 4:57 pm

Riverine wanted to learn about/start a discussion about the five elements in Chinese medicine (earth, metal, fire, water, wood)
I'm no expert but I'll post a couple links to info

general info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_eleme ... philosophy)

nutrition:

http://www.yinyanghouse.com/chinesetheo ... ition.html

thought this article on using 5 element theory to help people grieve was really interesting:
http://www.largocanyon.org/largo/heroes/elements.htm

also I'd say again here that it's helped me in different ways
I've used it in this way - I've identified with the element metal often- I seem to have a lot of those characteristics, issues with lungs...
in the system earth nourishes metal so I've eaten earth foods, am totally drawn to and use the color orange, am now getting acupuncture along my earth meridian, try to nurture connection to the earth, love the book earth prayers... as forms of nourishment

hope this helps riverine

please anyone who has thoughts/info feel free to contribute!

**Bump**

I think this IS a great start to a discussion...

I especially like the Yinyanghouse link...very facinating.
I have always had trouble wraping my mind around the Chinese Element approach to wellness and this site is starting to make sense of the whole thing...starting to  (I met a guy at DMV this week and he told me that the more he studied for his written test the dumber he got...that's what happens to me in trying to grasp this subject.)
I sooo what to grasp this because I feel that it will deepen my understanding of wellness through the use of food and herbs...not only as medicine but as companions in good health. (hope that makes sense :? )
