I LOVE this book. It was an assigned reading in college, and I've read it over and over again since then. My favorite story is about the Mistaken Zygote. That was the one which really hit home for me.

Wow, I hope it helps your 18 yo friend! I wish I would have read it then. I had it out (still reading it amongst other books!) a month ago on my break when I was still working at Whole Foods (not anymore!) and a really nice woman came up to me and said, "That is the best book you'll ever read." I thought that was so cool.

:) i'm reading it at the moment again for the second time and indead it's a good book,

i've talked about it with someone here and she asked me if this book has been translated.I at first thought it wasn't...Just found out it is :) Atleast it is translated in Dutch i don't know if it also is been translated in other languages,

it's available in Dutch at Bol.com and than the title is 'De ontembare vrouw'
isbn nr. is 9023008499
price is 26 euro

price might sounds a bit expansive but the book is worth it ;)

for Dutch and Dutch speaking Belgim readers and members of the forum it thought to share this here incase they are interested ;)

Women Who Run With the Wolves is my all time favorite book, hands down.
Sometimes when I read it or listen to her tapes (I have almost all of them. I love her. What can I say?) I wish I have someone there to talk and whisper about it.

But it seems that almost every word she writes strikes so many chords with me that it becomes so intimate and personal to share with anyone else that I have to... shhh. Keep it secret.
"Like the word "wild," the word "witch" has come to be understood as a pejorative, but long ago it was an appellation given to both old and young women healers. The word "witch" deriving from the word "wit," meaning wise."

Are you familiar with ebay? I've seen a lot of coppies on there. I've gotten a few great books on ebay for just a couple of dollars. Good luck! Let me know if you still can't find one, 'cause I see them from time to time at garage sales and rummage sales. In fact, I just recently picked one up for a friend going through some tough times. And my library as a copy also, so maybe yours will?

Good for you, Catoosh, it will be worth your while!

I don't know if there are different versions. I don't think so, but I really don't know.

I just received a book by the same author called "the Gift of Story." It's very short and looks like just one story, but I'm lookind forward to reading it. I'm reading so many other books right now, I haven't had time.

ooh, i started reading this book aloud with a woman friend a few months ago. but then i moved away, and she's still reading it, and now i have to find it again!

silly me, i saw about ten copies of it cheap at a book sale last year and didn't pick it up. what a waste!

also, for folks searching for the cheapest copy of a book online, addall.com is really great, it compares amazon, half.com, etc etc. and shows you the cheapest with shipping. (i just used addall.com and found multiple copies of the paperback for $3.62 WITH shipping!)

i just finished reading this book about a week ago. so it took me about seven months on and off, and it has helped me bring about dramatic change in my life. i enjoyed reading parts aloud with a friend, but also enjoyed reading alone to really let it all sink in and spend time pondering it.

i also found it empowering to physically respond to passages that called to me - by getting up and moving around, feeling my energy, or by creating something, drawing, painting, etc. physical manifestations of the lessons i gathered from the book have been great reminders and very encouraging to me.

i'll be living with my mother for a few months this winter, and she hasn't read it yet, but has heard many good things. i'm hoping we can read aloud together, as she and i have always shared a passion for books.

the handmade red shoes story Really grabbed me - my current journey has me only a few months away from moving back to land that i love, where i will literally build my life by hand (build a home from earth, garden, harvest rain and compost my waste, etc)
in response to the story of vasalisa the wise i created an intuition doll that i keep near me every night as a reminder.

this book is so fertile with ideas and paths toward healing and strength. i am excited to start reading it a second time.
