Heat Allergy ... ideas?

Postby Adelade » Sun Jul 06, 2008 11:37 pm

Hello, this is my first time posting on the fourm. I have been reading it for a few weeks now, and I need some advice.

I have a best friend who is moving from New England to India. Last time she traveled there she broke out in a terrible case of huge itchy hives. They looked and felt like enormous bug bites. The doctors determined that it was an allergy to heat/sun. She has very fair skin, blue eyes, naturally very blond. She avoided the sun with the use of a parasol and hats and long sleeved clothing. She spend time in air-conditioning all the time she could. The rash persisted until her return home a few weeks later. It slowly subsided.

Now she is moving there, for one year, or two... I am going to miss her dearly and I am also worried about her walking into a potentially unhealthy life situation. I hope that I can help her find ways to avoid, manage or ease the problem.

Any ideas that might help?
Thanks beautiful women,
A

Hi Adelade welcome to the forum.

As someone who suffers from the heat and lives in a very hot climate, I certainly understand your concerns about your friend. And as someone who feels more and more drawn to visit India myself I definetly understand her decision to go anyway :) .

I have found many good ways to cope with the heat through ayurveda. Learning about my own dosha and beginning to apply different eating habits, herbs and completely altering my attitude and daily routine during hot times has helped me greatly.

There have been a few discusions about ayurveda and coping with climate on this forum in the past. Here are a couple of links that may be useful:

The good news is that although the climate in India is often hot, it is also the country of ayurveda. So if your friend in interested, she will be in exactly the right place to find an ayurvedic practioner to help her.
