Anchasta.... I've been considering 'playing' with our Honey. Last season wasn't a very good year for Honey (everything seemed to bloom at the wrong time or didn't bloom), so we didn't have any to sell...although my husband did give several quarts away
Here in Oregon a Beekeeper has to have a State Approved and Inspected kitchen in order to sell honey anywhere other than from home, I wonder if internet sales count as 'from home' sales?! I'll have to ask at our next Beekeepers Assoc. meeting.
Course I guess it really doesn't matter since I'm a Honey Hog, I don't even use it in baking unless it's only a couple of tablespoons...if a recipe calls for anything over that I say "No way!" while clutching the jar to my chest

Today has been pretty nice here in the Willamette Valley...not raining, wind not blowing, It's a GREAT day!

Starting at 8:30 this morning I've been pulling weeds and baby Oaks out of my Herb garden, I've chicken proofed the area by my outdoor altar (at least I HOPE I chicken proofed they keep eating my Sweet Woodruff), Got Honeysuckle somewhat under control in the same area.
I covered the Potatoes with netting to prevent the dratted cats from digging in the patch.
Picked some Dandelion flowers for Dandelion bread!
Hope to get into the Beehives later today, we're curious to see if we have a new Queen in residence in one of our more AGGRESSIVE colonies.

So here we are at the tailend of Summer and I'm wondering what everyone has been up to Anything FUN, anything NEW, anything EXCITING?

I've been canning and freezing veggies and fruits from the garden. I need to get Onions into the dehydrator, we had a VERY good crop of Walla wallas this year, best ever
We've stayed pretty close to home this Summer, we've only taken day trips (except for the drive to Utah for my Dad's Memorial ), we've gone to the Desert and the Coast. Maybe next weekend we'll do a day trip to the Mountains to check on the Elderberries and hopefully my guy will catch us a couple trout.

I'm starting on Solstice gifts, knitted lace washclothes, scarves, gloves, Beeswax candles and soap. We've started our Honey harvest and it's only so so, because the Bees went through a SILLY SEASON of swarming, so we don't know if we'll be giving Honey as gifts (I'll probably hoard it all...mine, mine, all mine )

A few days ago I learned to knit! I thought I enjoyed crocheting, but I love knitting even more! Love it! I'm just practicing now, but when I stop making so many mistakes, I'll start a scarf. I think that would be my simplest first project.

I've learned so many techniques and fixed many a knitting mistake by watching the vids.

Thank you, Lady Alinor! I have especially liked the threadbanger videos on youtube. I'm about to try casting on for the first time with one of those. I have a nice big piece of my practicing I knitted last night with no mistakes, so I think I'll start a nice big scarf! Fun!

I feel like I like knitting much better than crocheting so far. Anyone else feel like that?

I'm hooked on knitting socks, gloves, scarves, washclothes and I just found a knitted lace shawl I'm dying to attempt. Since I learned to knit socks in October I've made eight pairs, I can't stand to not have a sock on my DPN's.

This morning while doing my outdoor chores I could smell Fall in the air, even though true Fall is still three weeks away it's approach is becoming tangible and it's got me moving into panic mode, there's no way that we're gonna be ready for the rainy season.

I think I'll make some Yarrow stick Stars to hang from the eaves of the Honey house and shop, garden and critter yard fences and some smaller Stars for the windows.
So...anyone know where I stashed the gluegun and Copper wire the Purple ribbon is miss placed too.

Good evening! Because this summer has been so very hot, sometime around Labor Day I decided to create a blog devoted to the anticipation of autumn. This includes all kinds of autumn events near me. I just posted about a dozen photos from a lovely event at a local cemetery based on the Chinese mid-Autumn festival. It culminated in participants assembling lanterns, which were lighted at sunset under the full Harvest Moon and floated on a lake. Messages to loved ones were inscribed on the lanterns, and as they were launched, it was felt the messages were being sent to those no longer with us. It was absolutely beautiful. Here...I have Sourdough French Bread rising and I'm about to make some Castille soap.
I'm keeping my eye on the White Pines, I plan on infusing some in EVOO for a special soap.
