What are you reading right now?

Now I'm reading The Valley of Horses, soon to be followed by The Mammoth Hunters. I figured it was high time for a reread of these, since a new one is coming out soon.

i agree cat - i believe i will start rereading as well. i am very excited for the newest addition.

"valley of horses" is probably my favorite out of the series but i can't seem to find it...

Movlin, I also liked Valley Of Horses best too. I like Ayla on her own with just the animals. I don't really care for any of the other humanoid characters.

me either - even jondalar gets on my nerves sometimes! ha. the simplicity and honesty of her relationship with herself and the animals is refreshing. no manipulative, passive aggressive game playing involved. when i reread it (lots of times) i usually skip through the jondalar/thonolan bits until it gets to where she finds them in the cave...then i don't skip anymore. haha

i do love the research involved in her books. so much detail and authenticity.

Ha! I also was skimming/skipping the other humans, and just focusing on Ayla and her life.
I love the life she created for herself in that lovely cave, with those wonderful animal companions. It speaks to the part of me that wants to live more with nature and animals and farther away from people. Oh for a cave!

I just reviewed a book I read for New Age Journal, on the animal-human bond. Lots of mainstream spirituality but discussion on shamans, psychic pets, and other interesting topics.

I'm reading The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Haven't read it in years and thought it might help ease the Winter blahs.

the secret garden sounds fun, lindsey. haven't thought of that one for awhile! probably would be a very different exprerience reading as an adult and understanding it on a whole different level.

Definitely Nutmeg! I think I enjoy it more as an adult than I did as a kid just because there are little things that speak to me more now. There's a part where the boy Dickon says about his ability to communicate with animals, "Anything will understand if you're friends with it for sure, but you have to be friends for sure." And the author capitalizes the word "Magic" throughout the whole book. It's been really enjoyable to read again.

The Land of Painted Caves is out!! I'm so excited! Been working so much I completely forgot it's release date was 4 days ago though, will be buying it today and locking myself away for the weekend

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett I read it years ago, but found it again and remembered how much I enjoyed it.

I, too, have read Clan of the Cave Bear, which I loved...but having a hard time getting into Valley of the Horses..? Sadly, I put it down to read the Hunger Games series. Highly disturbing books, yet....I think a story that needs to be told, considering the state of the world as of late.

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon is a favorite, loved Claire's herbal 'witchery'! That is what hooked me from the beginning! Fantastic series.

Right now I am reading George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. I am sort of a juggler when I read, I usually have a few books going at once. A good fiction, a good non fiction and a good suspense novel (for the nights of insomnia ).

Has anyone ever read The Elves of Lilly Hill Farm by Penny Kelly? What a great book!!
