Menses haven't returned after last pregnancy.

Postby Australis » Thu Feb 09, 2012 5:49 am

My son just turned 11 months. He's now eating 3 decent sized meals a day. I breast feed no more than 6 times a day. Still no period.

I do feel exteamily exhausted and drained of energy having a second child, especially since my boy as teething prblems in the wee small hours.
I have not felt any ovulation "burst" like I am used to. I've been eating well, no junk.
After my first pregnancy, menses resumed at about 8 months (soon as solids began.) This time things are sooooo different.

Could it be that I am 41 and things are slowing down, or am I so run down  that my body won't allow me the luxury of a period?

Any thoughts?

A

Hi Australis,

The shoes on the other foot for me.... My period came back after about 6 months, even though my daughter (2nd child) was resisting solids and was on the breast around the clock. I'm 30. I would be happy to go without the red moon for awhile longer. Does it bother you that you haven't started bleeding again yet? I imagine your body doesn't feel ready yet to carry another child. Whereas mine, against my will, is saying "lets go lets go at least another 12 before menopause"! Actually my body's feeling the toll of everything now.... my fingernails are very weak and hair is a lot thinner than before. So I am adding nettle infusion to my daily diet, keeping motherwort tincture on hand for PMT monsters and trying to keep a sense of humour!

If you really wanna start bleeding again you could consider weaning the baby from the breast and using some stimulating herbs, but personally, unless your actually feeling some problem or discomfort, enjoy the fact that you have one less thing to think about. Also considering the benifits of breast feeding, I'm planning to continue until little one's ready to stop.

Well blessings and a hug XXX

Melissa

Hi Melissa.

Yes, I do miss the bleed. For me bleeding is an indicator.

Like you I'm happy to BF until my boy is ready to stop. No big deal, my daughter was 2yo when she stopped asking for the boobie.
I just assumed that regardless of my BF bleeding should have resumed by 11 months. Not so. I think I'm just really surprised as how different things are from my last experience.

Extra oatstraw and nettle for me I think.

Thanks

A :)

your baby is still nursing 6 times a day, i would allow some time for everything to catch up before you being to be concerned. i know that moon time is an indicator for you.

can you do some things that would relieve the stress? trading day care, letting go of some of the housework, taking some time for yourself.

Planning a Chinese massage today. i promised myself to have one a week and havent been sticking to it. Now I know i have to do it for my sanity.
I found my daughter's maternal health records yesterday and I was comparing her breast intake at the same age as my son. Well it turns out that I was breast feeding her half as much. And I I'm certain that she was eating much more in the way of solids. i'll probably drop one of his feeds and see how he copes. I can replace it with yoghurt.

Thanks for the replies.
