Hello!

Hi all, I thought I'd introduce myself in here, since I'd like to get to know other birthing types. I'm Persephone, that name was chosen because I'm at the cusp of maiden and motherhood. (No, I'm not pg!) I am working towards childbirth certification, and I'm going to go to school next fall to be a lactation consultant... my final goal is to be a doula. I'm 21, engaged, and I love herbs, and books, and many more things!

i have a question for everyone. my friend is pregnant and will be 41 weeks on wed (27). she's not dialated at all right now. doc says cervix is soft but that's all. baby is in head down position but he's not in the pelvic bone area yet. baby is active, heartbeat good. she feels fine with "braxton hicks" contractions. she feels fine, but doc is "threatening" cesearean....any suggestions, thoughts? much appreciated as always!

No, it's not a problem. I wish I could help, but I'm just beginning my studies, and my best advice is if there's nothing wrong, and it doesn't sound like there is, just let it be. Babies come when they're ready, and not before. If she's very over due, like over 2.5 weeks, then I'd look into things a lil. But as of right now, IMO she's fine. But OBs won't see it that way, I'm afraid. Oh, one more thing to add: why is he threatening Csection?? Even if she's overdue, she should be allowed to labor on her own. I would say if he's going to interfere, then it should at least be an induction, not a csection! Yikes!

i know i know! she was told that it was 'standard practice' to do a c-section at 42 weeks. this has not been what other women who've birthed at home have said, nor does it make sense to me or her! but the hospital has its rules to follow [|)] i agree with you on the letting it be! this is the 'danger' of hospital birth i guess. thanks again

I work at a hospital, and the procedure there is to induce after 42 wks, NOT c-section! Be assertive about your health and ask for a second opinion.
