hot hot hands after epidural/cortisone injection

Postby lindasu » Sun Aug 27, 2006 9:11 pm

so, monday i had the second in a series of three cortisone injections in my spine for severe low back pain. these shots were the last resort in a battle with 2 or 3 herniated disks plus severe central canal stenosis. luckily, the epidural shots have resulted in quite a bit of relief from the pain...i mean, i can now stand up straight, sit for longer than 10 minutes and i can actually take a short walk around the block, which was impossible 6 wks ago.
but...
ever since the first epidural my hands have been incredibly hot. not sweaty or clammy, just a dry hothothot. sometimes i feel the heat rise up my neck and face, but it's not at all like a menapausal hot flash...this is just very different.
i've tried googling every term i can think of to see if this could be a side effect of the cortisone, but absolutely nothing comes up. i'm also constantly peeing at night...get up every couple hours with a totally full bladder. and my eyes are dry sometimes upon waking. one day so much so that i couldn't open my right eye, it was like sandpaper. took hours before it eased up.
i've been trying to stay hydrated. i'm not very hungry, but when i want to eat or drink, all i want are cooling things.
anyone have any ideas?
thanks,
-linda

Hi Linda,

This is probably a different track then you are looking for....

The heat rising different from a hot flash sounds like kundalini energy moving up. If the energy runs up one of the side channels it can be very, very hot and drying to the body. Also, the location of the injections lead me to think this is the case along w/ the trauma around the base chakras.

I would suggest drinking milk. Boil first then cool. If you like add either some cardamom or a little butter/ghee and a dash of sugar. Both cooling to the kundalini energy. They also may be used to reduce fevers as well while moisturizing tissue. The boiling first then cooling reduces the mucus producing properties.

The other thought...

I had a cortisone injection in my shoulder about 2 months ago. The cortisone did go systemic in me resulting in panic attacks and anxiety. Relief of my pain was at about 100%. I don't remember any heat symptoms. I have heard that insomnia can result.

I am glad you found some relief from the pain.
